Photo - Pitcher PlantOn A Standard 14 Day Tour Of Sabah we fly from Melb . (Sydney or Brisbane) to Kota Kinabalu via Singapore or Kuala Lumpur . At Kota Kinabalu (the capital of Sabah ) we spend 2 nights at a beach resort and visit the city for shopping and markets before travelling east to Mt. Kinabalu National Park .

We have a 2 night stay at the park where a climb to the 4,100 meter summit can be arranged. ( an optional extra with a high level of fitness required)

Mt. Kinabalu is a World Heritage Park and is home to more than 100 animal species, 300 bird species and more than 3000 plants, 900 of which are ferns and 1400 are orchids, also known for its rhododendrons and spectacular Pitcher Plants.

We stay at the Park Headquarters which has many forms of accommodation, conference centre, visitor centre, restaurants, souvenir shops a botanical garden and numerous bush walks.

We then travel about 40 ks to Poring Hot Springs for a 2 night stay to enjoy a variety of activities including an orchid garden a butterfly farm, several large swimming pools and a waterslide for children, the hot springs, rainforest walks to beautiful waterfalls (great for a swim) a 60 meter high tree canopy walk a souvenir shop, visitor centre and restaurant. We usually see squirrels, Sambar Deer, Macaque Monkeys and Orang Utans.

Photo - Mt KinabaluTravelling further east we reach the port city of Sandakan and our excellent villa accommodation at Sepilok , 10 minutes walk from the renowned Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. We visit the Orang Utans the following morning to begin our sensational Kinabatangan River wildlife safari.

Leaving sepilok we travel by mini bus to Sandakan city and transfer to a speed boat to cross the Sandakan Harbour and enter the huge Kinabatangan River .

We have 2 nights in great accommodation on the river and enjoy numerous small boat excursions to view an amazing variety of wildlife. Orang Utans , Elephants, squirrels, Proboscis Monkeys, Red Leaf Monkeys, Long Tail and Pig Tail Macaque Monkeys, 3 varieties of beautiful Kingfishers, Eagles, Egrets, Storks, huge Hornbills, Monitor Lizards and Crocodiles and more can be seen in a single day. We also visit local families in nearby villagers and plant rainforest trees.

Returning to Sandakan by speed boat we enjoy more wildlife along the way before a visit to the Australian War Memorial to learn a little history about the “Death March”.

The memorial is at the location of the Prisoner of War Camp from where Australian Soldiers began the death march to Kundusang . More than 2000 began but only 6 survived.

We have 1 or 2 nights relaxation at our Sepilok resort and can visit both the Orang Utan and Proboscis Monkey Sanctuaries before catching a flight back to Kota Kinabalu .

At Kota Kinabalu we have a variety of activities available including shopping, parasailing, snorkelling on the nearby coral islands, a visit to a bird park and Orang Utan Sanctuary or a day trip to Crocker Range National Park or just relaxing by the pool.

From K K we fly to Brunei for a 1 day 1 night stopover. Here we enjoy land and boat tours, visit the Sultans Palace and much more in a very interesting country before returning to Australia . We also organise some great activities for our transit stops in Singapore including the amazing Singapore Zoo. ( the best I have seen)
