The
Rhododendron Trek - Central
Nepal
We
fly to Jomsom in the huge Kali Ghandaki Valley near the border of Tibet. From
here we descend over 5 days. We stay in beautiful old villages made from clay
and stone and surrounded by fields of lush green barley. Apricot and apple brandy
are usually available in many of the villages at this time. We also visit schools
in several villages to give suitable gifts to the children, (you may bring clothing
or school items).
We have chosen
the best home and lodge accommodation in each village, some have fresh baked cakes,
bread and handmade Tibetan jewellery for sale. On one of our rest days we stay
in a village of sweet mandarins and soak in the local Hot Springs on the riverbank.
You can enjoy the local apple pie or a Carlsberg beer in most accommodation we
have chosen.
By day 7 or 8 of
the trek we have usually reached the Rhododendron Forest where the scent of Daphne
hangs in the air - usually late March early April. Beyond the pink red and white
Rhododendrons the massive snow clad peaks of the Dhaulagiris, Nilgiris and Annapurnas
are an awesome sight in clear weather. After 3 – 4 days in the forest we descend
through terraced fields (wheat and barley) and usually have great views of the
beautiful sacred Fishtail Mountain (Machhapuchhre).
An optional Royal
Chitwan National Park visit or a short bus trip has us back at Pokhara
at our Hotel on the shores of Lake Fewa once more. The following day is a rest
day usually spent shopping and dining out. From here it’s a flight back to Kathmandu
to finish.
Aus Global Soft
Adventure organise the trek from start to finish and your guide accompanies all
groups to and from Nepal, and is with you on all treks and to Royal Chitwan National
Park.

to begin our trek. The airstrip has been extended and is now sealed.
- Our day by day
itinerary my change during the trek due to adverse weather (normally quite stable
